Everyone is looking to save money and reduce their elevator maintenance costs. Elevator repairs, especially when overtime service is required, can be very costly. Performing a few simple checks can often let you restore service immediately or make you aware of a power problem in your building. Here are some tips to help you avoid unnecessary call backs and repairs.
1)? Confirm that there is in fact a problem, particularly if you are hearing about it second hand.
2)? If your elevator stops working, check to make sure the doors sills are clear of debris. Since elevators are not designed to run unless the doors are completely closed, this is a common reason for the elevator to shut down.
3)? Confirm the stop switches or buttons and restricted key switches are in the normal “run” position.
4)? Verify your building is not experiencing some form of power outage. If there is a problem with the building power have a qualified person check the main power connections for blown fuses, etc.

Many elevator companies hide a roll-over clause with tricky wording in their contracts that hold you responsible for cancelling the contract when it comes to term. In addition, escalation fees continue to add up each year if you are not paying attention. If you do not monitor your contract carefully, you will automatically be signed up for the same term, whether you want it or not. Many companies try to lock you into lengthy contracts, (i.e. 5 or 10-years), which are not required. You should be able to negotiate a term that works for you.
